Teena Piccione (pronounced pitch-OWN-ee) joined the N.C. Department of Information Technology in January 2025, bringing her impressive experience from the private sector and a deep-rooted understanding of North Carolina. Her vision for North Carolina’s future success in her area of expertise is built on empowering state agencies and residents to leverage innovative information technology (IT) as a source of inherent trust, security and safety.

As Secretary and State Chief Information Officer, Piccione leads with passion and purpose, focusing on strategic IT planning, seamless service delivery and robust cybersecurity initiatives. Her priorities include artificial intelligence, the N.C. 911 Board, cybersecurity and privacy, all reflecting her unwavering commitment to enhancing North Carolina’s technological infrastructure for public safety and personal privacy. 

Since being confirmed, Piccione has been a champion for broadband access and affordability for all North Carolinians, believing strongly in technology as a powerful tool for opportunity and connectivity.

Before joining NCDIT, Piccione served as Managing Director for Cloud and Customer Engineering at Google, working with major sectors such as Telecommunications, Media, Entertainment and Gaming. Her extensive background includes leadership roles at RTI International, Fidelity Investments and AT&T, where she spearheaded innovative advancements in technology and data usage.

Recently celebrated as High Point University's Data in Residence Expert and awarded Innovator of the Year 2025, Piccione's achievements showcase her dedication and visionary approach to technology and innovation.

With a steadfast commitment to enhancing state IT frameworks, Piccione has made significant contributions to the N.C. Information Technology Strategy Board's Digital Transformation Committee, playing a crucial role in shaping a vibrant digital future for North Carolina. Her enthusiasm for technology and dedication to public service truly inspire confidence in the transformative journey ahead for the state.
