Paul Reimers

Paul Reimers serves as chief information officer for the N.C Department of Environmental Quality, where he works to advance innovation, operational excellence and strategic IT solutions that empower environmental stewardship across North Carolina.
With more than 30 years of public sector experience, he brings a deep understanding of how to align IT with mission-critical goals for the military, federal and state agencies.
Prior to joining the N.C. Department of Information in October 2025, Reimers served as director of Enterprise Architecture at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, where he led national initiatives in cybersecurity, cloud modernization, AI and enterprise collaboration. His leadership also includes executive roles with the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army Forces Command, overseeing high-availability IT infrastructure, rapid cloud migrations and mission-critical application solutions.
Reimers holds a Master of Science in computer science from Wright State University and a Bachelor of Science in computer engineering from Western New England University, along with certifications as a Project Management Professional and Enterprise Architect. He has also completed executive education programs in AI at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and executive leadership at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
A longtime advocate for the technology community, Reimers served for eight years as president of the North Carolina chapter of Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, where he awarded more than $250,000 in scholarships and STEM grants to local schools.
