Azhar Rahman

Chief Data Officer

With more than 25 years of experience in enterprise data and analytics, Azhar Rahman serves as chief data officer for the N.C. Department of Information Technology, driving the department's data strategy, governance and collaboration efforts across state agencies to advance data-driven government and decision-making.

Rahman leads NCDIT's Enterprise Data Office, which supports the state's use of integrated data in geospatial solutions, health care, service delivery, public safety, fraud, compliance, finance, workforce and education outcomes, and other areas. He oversees the N.C. Center for Geographic Information and Analysis, N.C. Health Information Exchange Authority, Government Data Analytics Center and N.C. Longitudinal Data System.

Previously, Rahman led major initiatives in data strategy, governance and technology transformation across financial services, health care and the public sector.

He has a proven track record of partnering with executive leadership to develop regulatory-compliant, scalable data solutions and advance AI-powered analytics. He is known for strengthening data governance, improving data quality and enabling enterprise-wide, data-informed decision-making.
