The IT Procurement Advisor is an online tool that helps you quickly figure out whether a product or service you need should be handled as an IT procurement.

IT procurements differ from other purchases because they often involve technology, licensing, data systems or security requirements. Because they can affect how state systems operate, how we protect information and how tools and systems connect across agencies, they must be reviewed by the N.C. Department of Information Technology to ensure they meet statewide standards.

By identifying key IT-related factors, the IT Procurement Advisor helps ensure your request is handled correctly from the very start.

What the IT Procurement Advisor Does

The IT Procurement Advisor guides you in determining whether your purchase should go through NCDIT’s Statewide IT Procurement Office or the N.C. Department of Administration’s Purchase and Contract.

By answering some simple questions, you’ll know exactly where your request belongs.

How It Works

  • Step 1: Answer up to five yes/no questions.
  • Step 2: Instantly learn whether your purchase is considered IT related.
  • Step 3: If it is, your request is automatically routed to a representative in the Statewide IT Procurement Office, who will follow up with next steps.

What You’ll Be Asked

The IT Procurement Advisor reviews a few key details, such as:

  • How you plan to use the product or solution
  • What licenses and agreements might be needed
  • Who needs access to it (i.e., whether it requires special login permissions)
