The N.C. Department of Information Technology performed system maintenance last week that required all state and local government employees with an NCID account to reset their passwords.
If You Are Experiencing Issues, Keep Trying
Due to the large number of NCID accounts, it is taking time to get all passwords reset. Please be patient and keep trying if you cannot get into the NCDIT portal. The best time to access the portal currently is outside normal business hours, between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Make Sure You Are Using the Correct Password
Make sure you are using the correct password to log into the network, VPN and other services.
Locked Out After Answering Security Questions
If you have correctly answered your NCID account security questions but are still locked out, please wait a little while and try to reset your password again. The system might have lost the connection and you might not be locked out.
Locked Out After Resetting Password
If you have reset your password and then receive a message like the one in the image below, do not click “reset now.” Instead, enter your new password and try logging in again.
If you are still having trouble, please contact your organization’s NCID administrator for further assistance.
Microsoft Accounts Locked
If you get a message like the one above indicating that your Microsoft account has been locked, try the following:
- Verify that you have also synced your phones and other devices.
- Verify that another device is not trying to connect with the wrong password.
- If you reset your password, you will get this message until it unlocks. Wait 30 minutes and then try again.
If you continue to have an issue, please be patient, and try again later as we continue to troubleshoot the issue.
Microsoft Outlook Configuration Prompt
If you are receiving a prompt in Microsoft Outlook to configure serving settings, try the following:
- Check the box next to Don't ask me about this website again.
- Click the Allow button.
- If prompted, click to approve Autodiscover.
404 Error Message
NCDIT is aware of the above message that some users are receiving while connecting to NCID and is addressing the issue. There is no need to contact your agency’s service desk or the NCDIT Service Desk if you receive this message.
Resetting Your NCID Password
To reset your NCID:
Go to https://ncid.nc.gov/ on any computer or mobile device.
Log in using your current NCID and password.
You will be alerted that your password has expired and will be prompted to change your password.
You are done with NCID.
After changing your NCID, it could take up to 30 minutes before you can access Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook or Teams. If you cannot log in, please wait and try again.
You might get an error indicating your account is locked and that you need to contact customer support. The account is not locked. Wait 30 minutes before attempting to log in with your new password.

You changed your NCID password in the last three days.
You are trying to log in and are notified that your account has been disabled.
