PDF Accessibility Training

The N.C. Department of Information Technology is offering a two-part training series focused on creating and remediating accessible PDF documents. 

Led by accessibility experts from ABLR, this virtual instructor-led training is free to all North Carolina state employees and consists of lectures, demonstrations, hands-on-practice and Q&As.  

Equip yourself with the skills needed to ensure your digital content is inclusive and compliant with the U.S. Department of Justice's accessibility ruling before the April 24, 2026, compliance date.

Day 1: June 2, 8 a.m. to Noon

Accessible Source Files & Basic PDF Remediation

  • Best practices for creating accessible source files (Word and PowerPoint)
  • How to generate tagged PDFs
  • Building a logical tagging structure
  • Manual and automated accessibility checks
  • Using Adobe Acrobat Pro’s accessibility tools

Day 2: June 3, 8 a.m. to Noon

Creating Accessible PDFs – Hands-On Workshop

  • Live demonstration of PDF remediation techniques
  • Best practices for creating accessible forms
  • Introduction to assistive technology (screen readers, magnifiers, alternative input devices)
  • Performing usability testing on remediated PDFs

  • Registration closes at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
  • After registering, you will receive an invitation to the session from the ABLR trainer, Arielle Gines.
