This summer, NCDIT has hosted high school student Sophia Lee as part of the Lady Cardinal Mentorship Program, a four-week summer enrichment opportunity for high school girls in North Carolina to explore career paths in science, technology, engineering and mathematics within state government. The program is an initiative of the N.C. Department of Administration’s NC Council for Women & Youth Involvement.

On July 9, NCDIT hosted a Lady Cardinals Chat & Chew event with N.C. Office of State Budget and Management, bringing together all 18 Lady Cardinals for a special panel that featured NCDIT’s M365 core services team lead Karen Mann, workforce development manager Karen Lee and Human Resources recruiter and internship coordinator, Yori Lucien.

Sophia has spent her time with our department shadowing Karen Mann and other women mentors at NCDIT. “We have a wonderful team,” Mann said. “We truly value them, and they bring so much to the program.”

During her weeks at NCDIT, Sophia has been active with our broadband and digital opportunity, cybersecurity, enterprise data, privacy, enterprise applications, general counsel, finance and human resources teams.

"When I discovered this program, I thought it perfectly connected my interests in community involvement, local government and STEM,” she said.
