NCDIT celebrated its employees and their dedicated work during national Public Service Recognition Week, May 7-13. Such events acknowledge that people are a pillar of the work NCDIT does for state agencies and that recruitment initiatives are critical to maintain a talented, diverse workforce.
As state agencies have vacancy rates at or more than 20%, we are working to recruit a workforce prepared for new opportunities: digital transformation, cloud technologies, modernization, cybersecurity, privacy and AI tools. We want NCDIT to be recognized as an employer of choice that offers equitable opportunities for all employees to develop professionally, advance their careers and make significant contributions to the organization.
We continue to look for opportunities to remove barriers to employment – especially in education, where many roles and entry-level IT jobs can be performed as well by those with credentials or an associate’s degree as by four-year college graduates. As we seek to build a career pipeline from school to public service, NCDIT has launched four internship programs, including for high schoolers and those without immediate technology experience.
Recruitment is critical if to continue to expand and innovate our support and services. Our agency must be nimble to adjust to changing technologies and needs and to make public service, with a sense of meaning and purpose, attractive to new members of the workforce.
