The N.C. Department of Information Technology has welcomed 11 students into internships and early-career roles through a partnership with the Carolina Cyber Network.

The students represent five CCN member institutions: Fayetteville Technical Community College, Montreat College, Richmond Community College, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and Wake Technical Community College.

Nine students make up the first cohort of the Cybersecurity Internship Program, which offers paid, hands-on experience in areas such as security operations monitoring, threat detection, vulnerability scanning, policy development and security awareness training.

The yearlong program is designed to provide real-world exposure while helping to fill a growing talent gap in the state’s IT workforce. Ten more students enrolled at CCN schools will join the program in January.

In addition to the internship program, two students from CCN schools have accepted early-career positions focusing on security operations and threat monitoring with NCDIT’s Enterprise Security and Risk Management Office.

This partnership underscores a shared commitment between NCDIT and CCN to provide practical training opportunities that prepare students for success in the cybersecurity field, addressing a critical need for skilled professionals in North Carolina.
