Students from Millbrook High School’s Digital Media Career Academy in Wake County visited the N.C. Department of Information Technology in Raleigh on Jan. 29 to learn more about the department’s work and state IT career opportunities.
During the visit, the students met with NCDIT Secretary and State Chief Information Officer Teena Piccione and NCDIT Chief Deputy and Deputy State CIO Torre Jessup.
Piccione explained that she enjoyed working with the state because “you get to give back and affect every single North Carolinian.” Jessup also spoke about the importance of taking every opportunity life offers, encouraging students to “Be curious. Ask questions.”
Staff also talked with the students about how data centers work, led a hands-on exercise to assemble network cables and demonstrated how the department monitors and helps address any issues on state networks.
NCDIT continues to focus on student outreach to build a highly skilled, highly trained pipeline of IT talent for public service. Learn more about NCDIT’s efforts to invest in students and ignite their passion for tech-related careers.
