Reinforcing Governor Pat McCrory’s commitment to providing secure and effective services to citizens and state agencies in a rapidly changing digital landscape, the North Carolina Innovation Center (iCenter) hosted a proof of concept test on Monday for security software developed by students at North Carolina A&T State University (NC A&T).
“I’m thrilled to have the Department of Information Technology collaborating with one of our North Carolina universities to test such important technology for the state and its citizens,” said State Chief Information Officer Keith Werner. “This is exactly the kind of collaboration and innovation we hoped to encourage by establishing the Innovation Center.”
N.C. A&T developed the Malware Cyber Analysis and Advisement Tool (MalwareCAAT), which can prevent cyberattacks by determining whether URLs are safe. In this collaborative effort, the North Carolina Department of Information Technology will test and evaluate MalwareCAAT as a potential security tool for the State.
“Technology is the key to modernizing state government,” said State Chief Information Risk Officer Maria Thompson. “Testing technologies like this tool that N.C. A&T has developed could help keep the State one step ahead in our efforts to better serve the citizens of North Carolina.”
The MalwareCAAT test is one of many proofs of concept facilitated by the iCenter to improve the way in which state government operates. Governor McCrory established the iCenter in 2013 to promote collaboration, create solutions and transform the way state government delivers services.
