North Carolina’s Digital Commons project, Governor Pat McCrory’s initiative to provide better customer service by improving the usability of state government websites, has received national recognition. Several publications have highlighted the improved, online services now provided to the citizens of North Carolina because of the project.
The Digital Commons project was recognized by Net Magazine’s Creative Bloq, StateScoop, Government Technology and Technology Tank. In addition, Digital Services Director Billy Hylton had the honor of speaking about the Digital Commons Project at Red Hat’s All Things Open conference last fall.
From day one, Governor McCrory had a vision that interacting with state government should be as consumer-friendly and cost-effective as checking the latest scores or shopping on a smartphone. The Digital Commons project was initiated to help make that vision a reality.
“We were thrilled to see such an important project gain national recognition,” said State CIO Keith Werner. “This collaborative effort with our Innovation Center and cabinet agencies brought agency websites into the 21st century. Redesigned, mobile-friendly websites provide better customer service at a reduced cost and allow our citizens to more effectively and efficiently interact with state government.”
