North Carolina State Chief Information Officer Chris Estes was named Public Sector CIO of the Year at the recent North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA) 2015 NC Tech Awards. The award was one of seven individual awards given at the NC Tech Awards Gala on November 12 at the Raleigh Convention Center.

The NC Tech Awards is North Carolina's only statewide technology awards program, recognizing organizations and individuals who have characterized excellence, innovation, and leadership.

As State CIO, Estes serves in the cabinet of Governor Pat McCrory and leads the North Carolina Department of Information Technology.  In this role, he manages statewide IT planning and operations with an annual budget of more than $600 million and 2,200 employees.

“The NC Tech Awards recognize and honor the best of innovators and innovations,” said Brooks Raiford, President and CEO of NCTA. “As this year’s recipient of the Public Sector CIO of the Year award, Chris has distinguished himself as one of the state’s top technology leaders.”

Nominations were accepted over the summer for all of the corporate and individual awards.  The process culminates with the NC Tech Awards Gala where nearly 800 leaders from across the state gather to celebrate the tech sector and honor the finalists and announce the winners.

“It is an honor to be recognized as Public Sector CIO of the year,” said Estes. “I am looking forward to continuing to work toward Governor McCrory’s goal of making North Carolina’s government more efficient, effective and user-friendly for the citizens we serve.”
