Artificial intelligence is transforming everyday life and can be a helpful tool that makes daily tasks easier and more efficient. However, it is important to remember that while AI is powerful, it's not perfect, and we must all use it responsibly to protect ourselves and others.
Here are some do's and don'ts to keep in mind as you use AI:
Do:
- Think of AI as a helpful first draft. Use it to get started, but always read and edit before using the output.
- Keep personal information to yourself. Give AI only what's needed for the task — treat it like a helpful stranger, not a trusted friend.
- Double-check anything important. For anything affecting your health, money, or legal situation, verify with a trusted source.
- Use AI to learn, not just to get answers. Ask AI to explain its reasoning or simplify something complex, not just hand you a result.
- Stay in control of decisions that matter. Always know what AI is doing on your behalf before it's final and hard to undo.
- Keep learning as AI keeps changing. The habits of curiosity, caution, and verification will serve you no matter how the technology evolves.
Don't:
- Don't take AI outputs at face value. AI can be wrong, biased, or outdated — and it often won't tell you when it is.
- Don't share other people's private information. Describe situations generally, without names or identifying details.
- Don't let AI replace your own judgment. You're always responsible for the decisions you make, even if AI helped you make them.
- Don't assume AI-generated content is original or true. Writing, images, and voices can look completely real but be entirely fabricated.
