IP Telephone Technical Details

Technical Details

Enterprise - IP Telephony (EIPT) is built on an Avaya Communications Manager (CM) system with its control infrastructure located within our Data Centers in Raleigh, NC (EDC) and Forest City, NC (WDC). The Avaya CM runs on a series of servers and gateways that enable voice applications to run on the agency customer's Local Area Network (LAN) infrastructure. These devices provide open platform computing and centralized call telephony processing that is distributed across a multi-protocol IP network including, Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and metro Ethernet services to support a highly diversified and highly available network architecture. The platform can support a variety of agency network configurations; i.e., Campus, Multi-Site, Branch (networked or distributed), Remote, Small and Home Offices.

The CM software is Avaya's latest generation of voice application software, providing users all the features and functionality of a traditional telephone system as well as many new features, all on an IP network. EIPT provides rich capabilities for users upgrading from traditional circuit-switched networks as well as for new IP deployments, and will run on most customer agency's Quality of Service capable LAN networks.

A typical customer location is set up as a remote gateway connected via the State Wide Area Network (WAN) to the EDC and WDC sites. Our servers and gateways provide call setup, voice mail services, long distance calling facilities and toll free calling facilities. Each customer site has backup calling capability in the event the site's WAN access to us is lost.
