NCID Features NCID’s enterprise features create an efficient, effective tool to secure access to online services. Customers can leverage the service to: Verify the identity of individual users Manage user accounts Assign appropriate access to online resources Delegate authority and distribute administrative tasks Automate certain key functions Mobile-Friendly Experience Interface with clean and organized screens Streamlined screen content showing only features users have rights to Screens that recognize mobile device use and adjust the content display Secure Account Creation Delegated administrators create accounts for state and local government employees in their organization, division or section. Users do not self-register. Business and individual users create their own accounts through self-registration. Users get an email with an activation URL to complete registration. All account types (state, local, business and individual) require an email. User IDs have 6 to 20 characters. Longer IDs are shortened to 20 characters. Local government employees who do not have a delegated administrator create their accounts and can request a new entity if an organization does not exist. Enhanced Administrator Features Section delegated administrators can deactivate and reactivate users. State government employee accounts can be transferred between agencies. Delegated administrators get a CSV file with data for all users in their division or section. They can sort and extract specific user information in the file. Application administrators grant users access to applications with role assignments, not group membership. Efficient Workflow Process and Search Features Administrators and service desk agents manage user accounts via process request forms unique to the action performed (e.g., reset a password, unlock an account). Each form also has a search feature to look up user accounts. NCID is process driven. Administrators select a process request form and then look up the user account in the search section. Single and multiple field searches can be performed with fields for first name, last name, user ID, email address and BEACON number. Password and Login Security Three wrong password entries or challenge question answers lock an account. Passwords are case sensitive and must be entered exactly originally created. A tooltip verifies that passwords being created meet the state password policy. Delegated administrators can reset passwords and create temporary passwords for their users. Applications using the NCID login screen no longer display a “continue” button. Users are directed to the application. Convenient and Secure Self-Service Tools Users can check if their password is synchronized across applications (e.g., Exchange, BEACON). Users can view their administrators' contact information. When managing challenge questions and responses, users must select and answer five new questions. Previous questions and responses are not shown. Individual and business account holders can recover lost user IDs.
