Governor Pat McCrory dropped in on a meeting of Agency Chief Information Officers on Wednesday to highlight the importance of restructuring the State’s information technology resources.

“I am wholly endorsing the new structure to deliver more efficient and effective services for the individual needs of our departments,” said McCrory. “We’ve already made significant changes in the way we manage IT, but what we’ve done isn’t enough.”

Governor McCrory described his priorities for 2015, which align to the goals of the proposed Department of Information Technology (DIT). The new Department would create a single source of authority and accountability for the State’s IT resources. The Governor congratulated the IT professionals for the cost-savings and efficiencies they’ve achieved over the last two years, and emphasized the need for additional reform. He also stressed the need to invest in the digital infrastructure that will make government more efficient and user-friendly.

“Our goal is to continue the wise investment of the State’s money,” said McCrory. “We aren’t dealing with our own personal money – we’re dealing with the money of our citizens. We have to keep that in mind as we are making decisions for the future of our State.”

Governor McCrory thanked the IT employees for their public service to the State. “Not only do we need change for the State, we also need change for you,” he said. “Your skills come at a higher market price than ever before – and we need to adapt accordingly.”

The Office of the State CIO hosts a town-hall style meeting for agency CIOs and their leadership teams. The next quarterly meeting will occur in August.
