Chief Financial Officer

Cheryl Reed serves as chief financial officer for the N.C. Department of Information Technology, after five years with the department as interim CFO from July 2022 and deputy CFO from June 2018.

Reed is a hands-on, driven leader with well-rounded financial and budgetary experience. Directing a department of 35 employees, she leads day-to-day financial activities, including general fund appropriation, special fund and an Internal Service Fund, with a combined total of approximately $1.6 billion in annual spending. She exercises oversight over a variety of areas, including accounting and financial oversight, financial reporting, financial risk analysis, rates development, operations, compliance, analytics, IT and customer care/engagement.

Reed brings more than 20 years of experience in state and local government, and she holds a bachelor's degree from California State University–Sacramento and a master of public accounting from North Carolina State University.
